Rules & Strategy

If your hand goes over 21, you “bust” and lose your bet. It’s an interesting feature not only of blackjack but of all casino games that the house—or casino— always has the advantage. It’s another interesting feature of blackjack that the dealer’s bust potential is usually lower than the players’.

To play, you place a bet on the table in the betting circle in front of you. The progression kicks in after two consecutive wins, so that the player never loses money on any sequence that begins with a win. If, after two $5 wins, the player loses the $10 bet, he is even. A third consecutive win guarantees a profit for the sequence. Counters make no attempt to keep track of every card in the deck. When the deck is favorable to the player, they increase their bets.

Casinos, a “no hole card” game is played, meaning that the dealer does not draw nor consult their second card until after all players have finished making decisions. In all other cases, a stand, hit or surrender is called for. The no hole card rule adds approximately 0.11% to the house edge. “Original bets only” is also known by the acronym OBO; it has the same effect on basic strategy and house edge as reverting to a hole card game. The goal of Blackjack is to have a hand that totals higher than the dealer’s, but doesn’t total to higher than 21.

The tables that were open and all filled up had people sitting right next to each other so how can they use this excuse no replacement to open another table. It has nothing to do with the Corona virus because if it did then everyone would be seated further apart from one another and not right next to each other like it was. Once the hand is over, the dealer will move around the table to each position in turn, paying winning hands and collecting the chips from losing hands. After the dealer has paid you, you can remove your chips from the circle, and place your next bet. Ok this one’s an extremely rare variation which I doubt you will see in any casinos today but I thought I’d mention.

A hit is signaled by tapping the table and indicates the player wants another card. A stay is signaled by waving your hand above the table and indicates a player does not want anymore cards. The objective of the game is to get your card total closer to 21 than the dealer without going over 21. Although there may be multiple players are in the game, each player is only playing against the dealer. If you are looking to play from the comfort of your home, you can visit our online blackjack or live dealer blackjack sections for further resources. Many casinos in Europe, and some in other parts of the world, handle the dealer’s second card differently.

The player may continue to add cards until he thinks he has a good hand. If any added card sends the value of his hand higher than 21, the player has gone “bust” and he is no longer eligible to be a winner on that particular hand. If the player reaches a number that he is satisfied is close enough to 21, he says, “Stand,” to instruct the dealer that he requires no more cards. Each player looks at his facedown card and adds its value to that of his face-up card to determine the total value of the hand. The value of a card is equal to the number on the card. Aces can be worth either one or eleven, whichever value benefits the player.
